Bio

San Francisco designer and photographer Cary Nowell is known for her children’s clothing company, CARY, and her many successful years styling interiors for her home staging business. Raised in a creative family, Cary was encouraged to develop her artistic vision. With a determined entrepreneurial spirit, at twenty six, she started what became a nationally acclaimed children’s apparel company, whose collections were sold in boutiques and department stores throughout the United States. For seventeen years, CARY clothing was treasured for their high quality printed and woven fabrics, each with a timeless European flair.

Cary’s signature is her distinct aesthetic; often recognized by the simplicity of her crisp, white palette, punctuated with brilliant color accents. Her innate eye and skilled styling sensibilities further define her ‘image maker’ identity. Cary’s photography documents her creative accomplishments — from black and white images of children modeling her eponymous children’s clothes to interior shots of artfully staged homes and food photography featured on the Instagram site she shares with her daughter, @hydestreetpantry.

Cary’s passion and curiosity for world travel is where she draws her greatest inspiration. Visiting diverse cultures and connecting with people through her images is at the heart of her photographs. She translates the world with a meticulous eye, creating compositions, honest portraiture, and still life imagery. Cary’s visual fluency is communicated with an intuitive flair when styling interiors. Her enthusiasm and passion for clean simple spaces is incentive for future client projects, while photography and an affinity for textiles are equally integral to upcoming creative collaborations.
